Animal Scouts is leading a visit to Hooves and Paws Rescue on Saturday. Animal lovers of all ages can tour the facility and learn about how the animals got there and their amazing survival stories. They'll even get some hands on time with the animals and then break into smaller groups to do some volunteer work to help the rescue. This upbeat children’s musical based on the beloved New York Times Best Selling book by actress Julianne Moore teaches a wonderful lesson about loving the skin you are in. With a cult following online, this retailer specializing in unique, stylish Japanese children’s clothing has opened up shop in Downtown L.A.’s hip & trendy Little Tokyo / Arts District. Bring your buckaroos for a double feature, cowboy style. Two Gene Autry films are screened on the fourth Saturday of every month in the Imagination Gallery’s Western Legacy Theater. Gene Autry’s Westerns are known for their music, comedy, and action. This month’s films each feature Gene Autry’s funny and talented sidekicks. Milk + Bookies is hosting a special story time with an acclaimed children's book author, costumed characters and a Modern Family actress. There will be ice cream, cookies, crafts and lots of bookies fun. The month of May is National Foster Care Appreciation Month as well as National Military Appreciation Month. To honor these two communities, Milk + Bookies has collected hundreds of books to donate to children in the Los Angeles foster care system and families living on a local military case. Come celebrate as your family is invited to enjoy festivities, chose a book (that Milk + Bookies will provide) that your child can inscribe and donate to one of the recipient groups. "I won't grow up!" is a familiar cry in many homes... let them see where it came from! Creating Arts Company presents Peter Pan, a stage musical based on J.M. Barrie's beloved children's book. Take off with Peter and the three Darling children as they fly away from their nursery to the magic and wonder of Neverland, where they encounter the cunning and evil Captain Hook, villainous pirates, a crafty crocodile and a sprightly fairy named Tinker Bell. This fun one-hour interactive musical will have kiddos of all ages singing and dancing along. Everyone receives a toy musical instrument when they arrive and are encouraged to play, sing and dance along with the show. Opera Tales is a fun, high energy show that tours libraries every spring, bringing the joy to opera to kids every, for free. (No seriously! Opera is a joy, and your kids - and you - will love it. It's stories, song, love and emotion...) Celebrating Verdi's 200th birthday, this year it's Verdi Opera Tales at libraries all over LA through the month of May. Featuring four professional opera singers, these “opera pals” perform musical moments from such Verdi opera stories as Falstaff, Simon Boccanegra, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, and La Forza del Destino. Head out to Kidspace this Memorial Day Weekend for a time of watery competition and lasting impressions. First, purchase a rubber duck from the Busy Bee Learning Store, then decorate and race your rubber duck down the Interpretive Arroyo in the Kidspace Gardens. Sure, it's a day off, and a lovely long weekend with the family, but Memorial Day is also a time to honor the men and women who have served our country. A great way to introduce that idea to kids is a parade, and this year the Canoga Park Memorial Day parade theme is "Saluting the Price of Freedom" The day starts with a 5 K run/walk, and then the parade begins at the corner of Sherman Way and Owensmouth and travel east to Mason on Sherman Way ending at the Frist Baptist Church where the car show is. With spectacular views, splash pad, children's play area, gallery, historic pool, and Marion Davies Guest House there's something for everyone to enjoy at the Beach House, and it's almost time for it to open for good this season, so go get your swim on! The pool is open Memorial Day Weekend from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm, then it opens daily for the season on June 15th. Passes go on sale daily at 9:30 am.
