The 2013 cherry season is almost upon us! The season is projected to be short this year so we are encouraging everyone to come out Saturday, May 25th (opening day) of Memorial Day Weekend. Many farms will be selling out quickly and ours is no exception. They have lots of new furry and feathered friends for everyone to meet and their farm is both family and dog friendly. Bring a picnic lunch and a hat and sunscreen and come stay for the day while picking cherries in the orchard! The entire Salvador Family will be on staff to make your cherry picking experience the best. This two day festival transforms the Mission District in San Francisco into a colorful wonderland filled with food, music, dancing, and live entertainment. The weekend kicks off with a festival on Harrison Street between 16th and 24th Streets where the majority of the weekend's activities will be taking place. Bring cash to check out all the food offerings, arts & crafts, and other items for sale. On Sunday, May 26th, the 2013 San Francisco Carnaval Grand Parade kicks off at 9:30 am at the corner of 24th and Bryant Streets, where it will proceed west to Mission Street. From there, the parade heads north on Mission Street down to 17th Street, where it will turn east and flow into the festival area. Returning for its 24th year, the Bay Area KidFest is an entire three-day weekend packed with activities, games, shows, sports, and more for kids to stay active while learning. The third annual edition of the family showcase presents the best shorts from the acclaimed New York International Children’s Film Festival. While last year featured the best of Pixar, this time around they will offer nine films from six different countries. The British animation The Gruffalo’s Child, based on the popular book, has voices by Helena Bonham Carter and Robbie Coltrane. Highlights also include the candy-colored Balloon Moon and Keenan at Sea (with a hummable song by acoustic pop group The Girls), as well as Twist and Shout (with a visit to Abbey Road), Ernesto, about a boy whose baby teeth are making him miserable, and B/W Races, the hilarious animation from Italy. Finally the venerable (and irresistible) Aardman Animation uses a big beach to tell a tiny tale in the sand. Films are all in English or are non-verbal and therefore friendly to non-readers.
