Dress Shoes for Toddlers - Girls and Boys
Special occasions can be a lot of fun for new walkers—unless they're wearing stiff, uncomfortable shoes. Ensure your child's feet both look darling and feel great by picking the correct size with plenty of kid-friendly features.
Rule of thumb. When picking dress shoes, avoid the temptation to size up so your child can "grow into them." Fit is especially important when it comes to special occasion footwear because your toddler will be wearing them at a wedding, service or party for a prolonged period of time. Ensure the pair of choice is the correct size by pressing your thumb down on the toe of your toddler's shoe. There should be about a half-inch gap from the big toe to the edge of the shoe. Also feel with your fingers to make sure the width and height of the toe are large enough but not too roomy, so no toes are pinched or socks wrinkled.
Polished play. Even in their Sunday's best, kids will be kids. Select dress shoes that are fully suited for prancing, dancing and running around while still looking refined. A variety of dressy styles like mary janes and loafers come in soft leather, suede and even cotton varieties for the perfect balance of comfort and class. All it takes is a bit of patent shine or metallic sparkle to give the illusion of fanciness without all the fuss.
