The name opal evolved from the Roman word "opalus" which traces its roots from the Greek's "opallios " meaning to see a change of color. This Greek word is likewise a revision of the ancient Indian Sanskrit's "upala " which means precious stone. The development of this gemstone started millions of years ago when a mixture of silica and water flowed into cracks and holes in the ground. Over time it hardened and solidified to turn into opal.

The ring features an oval-shaped, light ethiopian opal gemstone set within a band of sterling silver.  The band is intricately designed with a rope or cable-like pattern around the perimeter of the ethiopian opal. The metal appears to be polished sterling silver, reflecting light.  The ethiopian opal is a pale, milky white with hints of subtle color variations, possibly pastel pinks, blues, or yellows, giving it a soft, iridescent quality. The gemstone is well-centered in the silver setting.
