Sacred Roots Candle

The Mayans believe that cultivating a respectful relationship with the land and the sacred natural elements based on reciprocity is fundamental to maintaining the connection to the origins of life. The Mayans rebuilt the city of Tikal with large, straight trees whose wood could withstand the weight of stone from the sacred groves of the Manilkara Zapota Sapodilla tree. Sapodilla is soft when you first cut it, so it can be carved into beautiful, intricate shapes. Yet when it dries, it is as hard as iron.
